Where to Play Tennis in El Paso

El Paso, Texas is known as the Sun City for good reason, averaging almost 300 sunny days a year. That’s an extra 100 days of sunshine compared to the national average! Additionally, the temperature is mostly warm year round, ranging from the high 30’s in the winter to the high 90’s in the summer. This makes El Paso a perfect place to enjoy outdoor sports such as tennis.

Tennis is a great way to stay physically active with your friends and family while soaking up fresh air and vitamin D (all while staying well over 6 feet from your opponent). Whether you’re looking for a fun weekend activity or a new sport to master, El Paso offers a variety of places where you can play tennis.

Parks

El Paso currently has 20 parks with tennis courts. Not only are these courts free, but they’re also conveniently spread throughout the city, increasing the chances that you live relatively close to at least one tennis court. The downside to these parks is that they usually only have 1 to 2 courts, making it difficult to schedule your games. If you find that all the courts are taken, you can always go for a jog, play some frisbee, or walk around until one becomes available.

Public Schools

Most, if not all, public high schools in El Paso have tennis courts. As long as the school is not using the courts for practice, tournaments, or any other school function, the public is welcome to play tennis. This means that weekends or early mornings are your best bet to access the courts. However, you can always call the school ahead of time to get a better sense of the tennis team’s schedule in order to plan your own.

Country Clubs

If you’re looking to take tennis lessons, play in tournaments, or meet new people, you may consider joining one of El Paso’s country clubs. While access to these courts does come with an often hefty membership fee, you also gain access to a host of other amenities such as pools, golf courses, and gyms. This could be a good investment if you’re hoping to make tennis a regular activity or are searching for ways to further take advantage of the Sun City. Here are a couple of country clubs with tennis courts:

Coronado Country Club

El Paso Country Club

El Paso Tennis and Swim Club

Tennis West Sports and Racquet Club

Tip:

Summers in El Paso are especially hot, so make sure you dress appropriately, stay hydrated, and apply sunscreen.
