How to Prevent Motivation loss

It's still early in the year, and many of us have goals that we're hoping to achieve. Staying motivated until you reach those goals is no small task. Here are some things you can do to prevent motivation loss and keep your resolutions.

Create Motivational reference text

List all the benefits you're looking forward to when you reach your goal. Or, better yet, list all the negative consequences of failing to reach your goal. Ask yourself what your life will look like if you continue on the same path. keep this in your phone or somewhere you can easily reference when you start to lose motivation.

Remember your successes

There's nothing that will drain your motivation faster than failure (if you let it). That's why it's important to log your successes and use them as fuel to remain inspired. When you feel like nothing is going right, don't allow your mind to dwell on the failures. Shift your focus to all your wins to pull yourself out of the slump.

get going and let motivation catch up

If it's taking effort to get motivated, spend that effort on getting started, and more often than not, the motivation will follow. You can usually manufacture motivation with progress.

Get Accountability

Let your friends in on your goals and ask them to check in on you. Sometimes, even if they don't remember to check in, having told them about your goal is enough to motivate you. Social media is a great tool for keeping people in the loop on your progress. The best accountability partners are the ones whose goals align with yours.

Use motivational apps

There are apps for helping you reach all types of goals. If your goals are fitness related, check out Pantheon. Pantheon is a social fitness app built by us to help people get fit together. The app allows you to complete workouts, mindfulness activities, and challenges. It also provides rewards for achieving your fitness and mindfulness goals. Several factors of the app help prevent motivation loss. It comes with daily motivational quotes, visuals of your fitness progress, and a leaderboard to see how you're doing relative to your friends.

If your goals are more general, check out Strides. The Strides app helps track progress on all types of things from habits you're trying to build to work/school projects.

If your goals are less about getting something done and more about cutting out the things you waste time on, try using a time limiter for certain distracting sites/apps like ZenScreen. It's available for your phone or computer and helps you limit entertainment screen time and monitor your trends for a healthy digital diet.
