The Best Recovery Tool is Only $4

Massages are something most of us get as an indulgence. But if you work hard on your fitness, you should be investing into your recovery as part of that work. Not only are stiff muscles unpleasant, adhesions within your muscle tissue, fascia, and skin, can lead to injuries.

That doesn't mean you need to visit your local spa or drop hundreds of dollars on massage equipment. Instead you can get one of the most versatile, effective, and affordable tools: the humble lacrosse ball.

Yes, the lacrosse ball is used to play lacrosse, but you can also use to massage muscles. Just pick a place that feels sore or stiff, put the lacrosse ball on it, and lean into it. My tender spots are my quads and shoulders. If a lacrosse ball is too hard, you can use a tennis ball.

There are fancier, more expensive massage tools out there, and I'm a fan of many of them, but before you make the investment in those, you should experiment with the much cheaper lacrosse ball. They're about $4 each, so you don't have much to lose.
