Fun Ways To Exercise

Not everyone get's pumped at the prospect of a 5 mile run or 2 hour weight lifting session. Many of us need a form of exercise that tricks our brains into forgetting it's exercise altogether. Pantheon loves fun and alternative forms of exercise, so here's a list of our favorites.

pokémon go

Okay, so Pokémon Go technically isn’t a fitness app, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use it as a fun way to use competition to get more exercise. If walking for it’s own sake is boring to you, you can use the excuse of finding new Pokémon and hatching eggs to get you to walk more. In fact, researches found Pokémon Go led players to walk 25% more than they did before playing the game . And while you’re not really competing with friends on who can do the most pushups, you can still compete with them on Pokémon Go-based objectives, like filling your Pokedex or becoming a Gym Leader (this is an especially effective way to get more outdoor time with kids).

Pokémon Go is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

dancing

Dance is a great option for breaking a sweat and burning a ton of calories. If you like the social aspect of dancing, there's dance classes (all genres), dance clubs, and organized dance socials. If you just like to feel the music, dancing around the house while doing chores or in the shower (carefully), can take a low impact activity in a an exhilarating cardio workout.

One of the most popular forms of dance fitness is Zumba. Zumba blends elements from several genres of dance into a fluid fitness dance. Members of Zumba communities bond at dance parties, concerts, and backyard barbecues. Anywhere there’s music and an opportunity to dance. On a larger scale, the worldwide Zumba community meets at massive conferences like ZINCON and SYNC Summit to connect with others and grow their skills.

Team Sports

One of the best ways to make fitness more fun and engaging is to introduce and element of competition, and sports are one of the best ways to do that. The simplest option is to start with Google. Search “[sport of your choice] + [your town]”. Most larger towns will have countless options to choose from. There are an infinite number of local flag football and basketball leagues. You can probably even find one more personal like a competitive running club for women over 50 or an ultimate frisbee team that does wine tasting on the side.

Another great resource is MeetUp.com. This is perfect for anyone who isn’t sure what type of sport they want to be a part of yet. You can find a list of all the clubs within a specified radius of your location and see what looks cool. There’s everything from mixed martial arts to hacky sacking.
