Why Jump Ropes Aren't Just for Kids

Jumping rope isn’t just for kids. And it isn’t just a warmup. A jump rope is a uniquely portable tool that can give you a serious workout. There are countless benefits to jumping rope which include improved coordination, boosted metabolism, and improved cardiovascular endurance. 

Jumping rope is an excellent alternative to running. It can increase your metabolic rate 10 to 12 times above resting which is comparable to jogging at 6 to 7 miles per hour. That makes it a great solution for runners when the weather isn’t on your side, it’s after dark, or you don’t have much time. 

Using a jump rope can also give you killer calves. Calves are often a neglected muscle group because they’re difficult to target. Jumping rope engages your calves in several ways that traditional weightlifting doesn’t.

You can also add jumping rope into your current workout regimen for an extra boost of intensity. Jump rope works great as a station in a high intensity interval training (HIIT) workout. Adding it in the middle of an already difficult workout can push you to work on active recovery and majorly improve your endurance. 

Another cool benefit of jumping rope is it’s ability to strengthen the muscles surrounding your foot and ankle. This can decrease the risk of foot injury!
